Suzette M. Marteny focuses her practice on assisting her clients in acquiring, monetizing and enforcing their intellectual property rights. In 2008, Ms. Marteny was recognized as one of Florida Trend’s Legal Elite for her work in intellectual property.

Ms. Marteny has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in complex litigations with claims such as patent, trademark and copyright infringement, trade secret misappropriation, Internet domain name disputes, advertising issues, publishing, counterfeit goods, right of publicity issues, computer fraud and abuse, state and federal unfair competition, counterfeiting, restrictive covenants and contractual matters. Her experience also includes representing clients in cancellation and opposition proceedings in the United States Patent & Trademark Office. Ms. Marteny has also litigated various other types of disputes involving partnerships, real estate, civil theft and insurance.

Ms. Marteny’s practice also covers a range of US and international transactional matters in a wide variety of areas including information technology, computer technology, Internet, new media (podcasting, blogging) and entertainment. She has specific experience in assisting her clients in developing internal business procedures for the protection of intellectual property rights, preparing contracts such as manufacturing and supply agreements, intellectual property licenses, software and content development agreements and distribution agreements.

As a corollary to her transactional work, Ms. Marteny’s experience also includes assisting her clients with forming corporations and securing funding.

Additionally, Ms. Marteny has experience in advising clients with respect to online gambling and sweepstakes laws.

Prior to beginning her law career, Ms. Marteny was an analytical chemist in the pharmaceutical, resins and versatics, and flavoring industries. Ms. Marteny has worked for companies such as Shell Chemical, Daniels Pharmaceuticals and the Roche Group.

She is a member of The Florida Bar and the Hillsborough County Bar Association.

Ms. Marteny is also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Hillsborough Association of Women Lawyers.
